Our biggest fears (and why we hit record anyway)

Hello Reader,

A few years ago, if you met me right after the pandemic was loosening its grip on the world, I was not a podcaster. I definitely knew I was a critical care physician who happened to have some ideas about coaching, because I just finished coach training. And Klaus really wasn’t sure either. And yet, here we are at episode 100!

I’ll be honest - back then, I’d never really used YouTube aside from random tutorials on how to fix something around the house. The thought of being on video was nerve-wracking. What if I messed up? What if nobody listened?

What did I know about podcasting, audio or video? I was just a consumer listening in the car. What I DID know was that, for both Klaus and I, one of our values was creativity. And so learning something new together was fun, creative, and fulfilling.

Looking back at our 100-episode milestone with Klaus Grim, our Podcast Director, I realize the lessons we’ve learned extend far beyond podcasting. They’re about designing a life that works within broken systems - whether that’s healthcare, your organization, or any environment where you’re trying to create meaningful change.

Start before you’re ready We never felt ready to start a podcast. I wasn’t ready for LinkedIn live events or YouTube streaming. But “perfect conditions” are just procrastination in disguise. The confidence and clarity came from doing, not from waiting.

Iteration beats perfection every time Our early episodes weren’t polished. Our newsletter has evolved. Our format has shifted. Klaus spent hours re-editing the same files until we realized the less-edited versions actually sounded better and more natural.

Find your values-aligned team Having co-creators who share your values around growth, learning, and playful experimentation makes the creative process less lonely and more sustainable. When everyone’s willing to show up on camera, give feedback, and try new things together, magic happens.

If I had to distill 100 episodes into one message: Persistent growth happens through taking action. Klaus would add: You are braver than you think - that one micro step might be the meaningful impact you’re seeking.

Listen to hear our biggest fears, the listener message that kept us going, and why consistency compounds in ways that surprise you. Whether you’re thinking about starting your own meaningful project or just need a reminder that small steps add up, this episode is for you.

What's inspiring us this week:

Networking and meeting people! Old colleagues reaching out to say hello! New colleagues committing to staying in touch! Connecting, both new and old, is what makes our human experience better, wiser, and richer. My local Healthcare Business Women (HBA) Pittsburgh had a lovely networking session on Friday that was so wonderful to meet the diversity in my city for healthcare business, partnerships, development, growth, and learning. Wondering what it was like? Check out HBA Pittsburgh's President Dr. Maria Abunto's LinkedIn post here.

The Practice: Celebrating Wins

We get more of what we focus on. The practice of gratitude and celebrating the goodness of life is the first step in changing our brains, mindsets, and circumstances for the better.

Grateful for an international coaching learning group promising to stay in touch in our learning journey, and grateful for an old colleague reaching out about leadership coaching learning opportunities.

Stay mindful and keep leading,
Lillian

Hello Reader, When Lorna Breen died by suicide in 2020, her brother-in-law Corey Feist made a choice that changed federal policy. He listened. Not to consultants. Not to a board room. To the healthcare workers themselves — nurses, physicians, pharmacists, PAs — who flooded his inbox after national coverage of Lorna's passing. People who were scared. People who were watching their own children enter a profession and wondering if it was safe. What Corey heard became the architecture of the Dr....
