Self-Leadership: The Foundation for Transforming Yourself and Your Team in 2026

Hello Reader,

Happy New Year! As we kick off 2026, I want to invite you to approach this year a bit differently. Instead of just making resolutions, what if we focused on transforming ourselves first through self-leadership?

In this episode, Klaus and I dive into what self-leadership really means - being intentional about how you think, feel and act. It's moving from reacting to the world to being proactive. Some key practices we discuss:

  • Increasing self-awareness of your patterns and triggers
  • Self-regulating your responses instead of just reacting
  • Exercising choice in your thoughts and actions
  • Modeling the change you want to see in your team
  • Tapping into your intrinsic motivation and remembering your "why"
  • Aligning your calendar with your true priorities and values
  • Leveraging your peak energy windows

We also explore how self-leadership becomes the foundation for leading others. When you role model how to be different, it creates psychological safety for your team to do the same. Your emotional state as a leader is contagious.

The most powerful shift is going from "I have all the answers" to "I'm going to coach my team to find the answers." This builds a team of problem-solvers and has a multiplier effect on collaboration and resilience.

I challenge you to commit to trying just one self-leadership practice we discuss.

Share it with a colleague to build in accountability.

Small steps can lead to big transformations, for yourself and your team.

Here's to your growth and leadership in 2026!

Cheers,
Lillian

The Practice: Celebrating Wins

We get more of what we focus on. The practice of gratitude and celebrating the goodness of life is the first step in changing our brains, mindsets, and circumstances for the better.

Getting back onto the yoga mat after 2 weeks away with the busy-ness of the holidays. Sure Disney was fun and making memories with my daughter and sisters is important, but it's been nice to settle back into a lazy weekend routine, cleaning with a new vacuum and back to hot yoga. What small things are you grateful for?

Stay mindful and keep leading,
Lillian

episode 94 healthcare burnout isn't weakness transforming healthcare coaching

Hello Reader, We need to talk about burnout. Not the "I'm tired and need a vacation" kind. The kind that makes you question whether you can keep doing this work you trained years for. The kind that's far more prevalent than any of us want to admit. In our latest conversation, Klaus and I dug into what burnout really looks like, why it's not what most people think, and what helps us move through it. Here's what we explored: Burnout Is a System Response, Not a Character Flaw This might be the...

From Autopilot to Awareness: How to Lead Your Team Without Burning Out Hello Reader, Picture this: You're about to walk into a meeting where you know someone's going to push back. Your jaw is tight, your shoulders are up by your ears, and you're already rehearsing your defense. What if you could shift that energy in 10 seconds flat—before you even get into the room? This week, I sat down with Vicki Landers, physical therapist, leadership coach and professional speaker, to talk about something...

When Mentorship Isn't Enough: The Coaching Skills Every Healthcare Leader Needs Hello Reader, Picture this: You're a ship approaching an iceberg. Your mentor shouts, "Steer right!"—because that's what worked for them. Your CME courses teach you everything about icebergs and ship mechanics. But a coach? A coach asks you what you see, what matters to you, and helps you discover your own path forward—whether that means steering, stopping, turning around, or abandoning ship entirely. This week on...
